Re: 1969 rear console
Jerry,
Not sure what the rear console your referring to. If it is the area behind the E-brake I believe it is a painted surface. Mine a is black and it is not painted because my interior is black and it is made of black plastic. If your interior is a different color it would need to painted to match.- Top

Jerry-----
If you're talking about the EMERGENCY BRAKE CONSOLE, this piece was made of an ivory-colored plastic material and painted the appropriate interior color (including black).
Anything you use to try to remove existing paint is going to do a lot more harm than good. I would not attempt it. You can get excellent results by just cleaning it THOROUGHLY and repainting with SEM interior paint. It will appear like new.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

The one on my 69 was black all the way through. the reason I know this is that it was broken and the black color was all the way through the plastic. I replaced it with one from Al K.- Top

Re: 1969 rear console
I just bought an emergency brake console for my 70 from Al K.
The first one I received was black plastic covered in black vinyl. It looked good, but the vinyl is not accurate for a 70.
The second one I received was black plastic and looked like crap. You could see the circle/rings on the exterior that corresponded with where the screws/studs attached on the inside.
I then spoke with Elliot K.(?) who informed me that all parking brake consols are being made or are coming from one company in Taiwan/China.
Al K. adds the vinyl to make it look better.
True, false? I don't know, just my experience.- Top

Re: 1969 rear console
Are you sure it's an ORIGINAL console? All the ones I've seen from 1969 are an ivory-colored plastic which is painted interior color. Some of the later GM SERVICE consoles were a light gray plastic. I've never seen a GM console which was black plastic. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Vinyl-covered emergency brake console is not correct for ANY 69-76.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
