    Block Casting Date

I am interested in purchasing a block with a casting date 8 days prior to my cars build date. Would that be an acceptable casting date or is it too close to build date?

My cast date for my 67 327 is 2 weeks prior to engine build date which is 8 days prior to car build date.

I am no expert on this, but that seems a little close to me. I think that Mike's situation is more typical. After the blocks were cast they had to cool down and then they were dressed, but that did'nt necessarily occur immediately. They were then assembled at an even later time, and then shipped to the factory.

8 days between the casting date and the car build date has to include a Sunday, in which no work was done, and maybe even a Saturday with no shifts or only one shift.

This has been discussed before and is in the archives, but maybe Michael or John or someone else might know.

My 65 motor was cast 3-21, assembled 3-29 and the car was built 4-10.

              Hi,
My 71 sb cylinder case was cast on Dec. 31st; the engine was built on Jan. 7th; and the car was built around Jan. 14th.
              Happy New Year!
              Regards,
              Alan

                Walter -

What block is it? (casting number and date)?

My '67 SB (657 block) was cast on May 25th, assembled on June 1st, and the car was built on June 8th; that's a pretty typical time span.

                  Re: Block Casting Date

My '63 327 was cast on Dec 28th, engine assembled Jan 2nd, and car assembled Jan 21. This and the above posts suggest roughly a 2-3 week time period between casting and assembly, so your 8 days seems maybe a bit tight. But I'm not sure there is a 'standard' on these things and NCRS judging seems to be quite flexible. I would defer to more knowledgeable historians and judges on this board.
