    Tom Ames Paint tutorial

Happy New Year to all !!

I just spoke to Tom Ames at great length , as I am ready to paint my roadster, for details ect. He is a "Great Guy" and spent loads of time giving me hints and details.

He told me that he has done a lot of NCRS seminars on painting. That made me wonder if someone might have a written transcript, or even a Video of one of them .

    Anyone ?

I am sure I got most of what he explained to me , however dictation over the phone is not my strong suit, and I would dearly love to have anything you guys have out there on him in either form.

    Thanks ,

    Jim Schwering

    Re: Tom Ames Paint tutorial

I made some notes from one of Toms seminars a few years ago for the painter of my 71. All things considered, I should have had Tom paint it. NCRS-style painting can be hard for painters not in the hobby to understand. My painter kept saying, "you need to let me do this right". It's on my computer at work. If you like, I can send it to you via email

      Jim,

Tom put on his famous seminar at the Joplin regional last spring. I sent him an email afterwards, he sent me a CD of his paint seminar. I bet he would do the same for you... It's excellent, by the way!

Post #4. Not much new information. The CD is probably better.

The paint information is the same on the NCRS tech video and is available in a Restorer article in vol. 29 number 4 spring 2003 under the title Restoration paint. The current version of my paint seminar uses the same paint information but goes into a lot more detail on judging and paint appearance. I have given copies to judging chairman for use in paint seminars. I do not usually send copies to everyone. The video is readily available through NCRS.
