The piece riveted to the frame broke so I replaced with a repro (I saved the old pieces in case of a problem like this post). When I put back in the door and used the crank, the hinge was so misaligned that it cracked & tore the lower hinge from the vent glass frame. It appears that it needs to be indexed to a very different position on the vent glass frame for correct operation.
My solution would appear to be to mark the vent glass frame where it appears it will work while assembled in the door, remove & have the hinge repaired and reattached in the new location.
The door frame isn't bent or anything but the vent frame did appear to have some minor deformation so it's possible it came from another car door at some point hence the misalignment? I wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what the solution was.
Thanks!
