      I think its the breaking down of the rubber, I think it might be called "outgassing" my C3 steering wheel does the same thing, an oily, sticky film. I usually use a towell and some simple green and its good for awhile, but it allways comes back!!

        I seem to get a bit of this on my brake and clutch pedals during winter storage. Wipes off with simple green and then is good till following spring. I wonder if I'd avoid this problem if I kept those huge silica bags in the car over the winter?

        My rubber turn signal and tilt/tele tips gets a very little bit of this too, but barely noticeable. Hasn't been a problem as much as a nuisance.
