I have the opportunity to obtain a correctly dated, restored 56 engine for my car. Rebuilt/balanced carb to pan, no water pump, exhaust manifolds, distributor nor fuel pump (i.e., long block with carb). Whats this worth?

Re: 56 Engine Value
Much of the "weight" and "value" of this engine will revolve around whether or not it is an "early" (RH dipstick to side of pan,
exhaust manifolds, etc., etc.) or the later (and generally more available) engines. You need to provide more information.- Top

Re: 56 Engine Value
Cathy, I'll take a shot I am getting my 283 rebuilt it is the original engine to my car. The rebuild machine work, etc will be about $3,000. Seeing that mine is serial numbered to the car it really cannot be replaced but I would think a dated block heads etc would be worth $1000 minimum, mine is a base engine also so that makes a difference, compared to a FI engine. I do not know the rarity of a correct 265 block but it may be harder to find than mine, that being said I would guess somewhere around the $4,000 to $6,000 may be in the ball park. I may be off on this but that is about what I will have in mine when all is said and done.
Hope this give you some idea

Cathy,
Make sure it's a Flint block and heads.
