I have a '72 corvette that has the typical engine pad identification with the VIN and serial number etc., but toward the front edge of the pad there is 2 X's. The correct broach marks are on the pad and the size of the VIN and serial number are correct and the date code for the block matches the production date of the car. The engine was rebuilt in the '80's and I'm not sure if the person that had it rebuilt put the X's on pad to identify the engine block and make sure they got the same one back or not. I feel certain that the block is original to the car but it does raise some concerns. The question I have is, what if any impact would this have in judging the car, how many points could I loose and what could these be from? Any help with this that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Engine Pad Marking Concerns - Need Your Help
Robert,
Any photos?
Odds are it won't have any impact on judging assuming everything else appears as it should and nothing has been obliterated.
However, if we have a chance to see it that would help.

Here is a picture of the pad when the engine was being dyno'd. It's not to clear but if you look at the outer edge of the pad you can see one of the two X's. I'll try and get a better picture tomorrow.Bob Puls, 30633- Top
