Re: 2012 427 corvette
Clem, I saw that over on CF. Actually a 2013. As a C6 Z06 owner I have mixed feelings. It's good for Chevrolet and the Corvette to do something to stimulate sales before the C7 comes out in 2014. At least they did more than an appearance package to commemorate the 60th. The 427 LS7 is a great motor. The car will probably be priced around $100,000.- Top

I'm OK with white and blue.
However, I suspect that Paul is correct and it will be a $100k car - which will not help sales at all.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: 2012 427 corvette
I was astounded to see the press release today. For once, GM got a commemorative edition right. This will be the only opportunity to own a new 427 powered Corvette convertible ever again. I was waiting for incentive to order a C6 and this is it. With the 2013 Mustang GT500 and 2013 Corvette 427 60th convertible, 2013 will be the 1967 of the modern muscle car era.- Top

Re: 2012 427 corvette
I'm curious what was done to strengthen the convertible to ensure structural stability. No mention of anything in the press release, other than weight savings with carbon fiber items.- Top

Re: 2012 427 corvette
GM said when they came out with the C-5 they said it was designed as a vert first so structural stability was built in. remember this corvette will have a steel frame not aluminum like the ZO-6 coupe.- Top

Re: 2012 427 corvette
I worked on a '67 427/435 convertible last year, somewhat of a body-on restoration. I had to shim the #4(rear) body mounts on the left side 3x as much as the right side. This was to get the doors lined up better.
I would guess that over the years of burnouts and street racing, that steel frame got a bit "t w e a k e d".

Re: 2012 427 corvette
Hmm, didn't know that about the C5, but then again, the C5 Z06 had a fixed roof, just like the C6 Z06. I always assumed that because of the higher hp and torque rating of the LS7, a removable roof was not in the design spec. But as you say, maybe because the steel frame is under this C6 427 convertible it'll cover it. I just hope the designers have modeled and simulated it correctly.

Re: 2012 427 corvette
I don't know how they came up with the color combination but you would think that since the '53 was white/red that this commemorative edition would be a white/red combination with red stripes.
I am just not sure how this white/blue is going to look.- Top

Re: 2012 427 corvette
I can go for the white / blue stripe / blue interior easily enough. It reminds me of a certain 67 BB convertible "driver" up around New Hill, NC that I have long admired. However, I hope the description concerning the top is a mistake. I can't imagine a stripe stitched into the blue convertible top looking quite right. Chip.- Top

Re: 2012 427 corvette
Maybe I missed something, but the way I read the article the 427 is available in a collector edition with no color restriction, and the 60th anniversary edition is avail in all models, but only in white.
Thanks.- Top
