    67E Steering Column Help

I recently restored my early 67 steering column. Used Jim Shea's papers as a guide. Extremely helpful. Question is how did the factory/supplier attach the plastic sleeve to the column? Referring to the split sleeve with tapers at each end that covers the collapsable portion of the column. Was clear plastic tape used at each end or was there some sort of plastic ties? I noticed what could have been tape residue. Any guidance or pics of an original column would help.
    thanks,
    Dereck

    Dereck -

That plastic sleeve came to St. Louis as part of the column assembly from Saginaw Steering Gear; maybe Jim Shea knows how they installed it.

Jim Shea sent me a drawing today showing how the supplier attached the sleeve. It indicates a "heat seal" at three locations along the overlap seam. Attached is Jim's drawing. Sure enough, my original sleeve has three areas where a hot object was used at the overlap joint to hold the sleeve in place after it was wrapped. I've attached a pic of one of the three areas on my sleeve showing the "heat seal" applied. My thanks to Jim for the info.
