C5 OBD code problem #1416 AIR system

Hey C5 guys, on my 2002 C5 I get the check engine icon and it traces to an OBD II code C, current, number P1416 which is the secondary air injection system. I have the Black Wing air intake on it; so I take the Black Wing off and clean it. But the OBD code P1416 comes on again. My question is, what else could it be trying to tell me or what else can I do?

OK Let me restate my request, the vette runs excellent...the code P1416 IS the secondary air injection system...I can find nothing wrong.
Will driving the vette hurt anything???

Help, any ideas??

George, I Googled "p1416 corvette" and got 9,250 results. The first page had a few that looked very promising at first glance. You might want to give it a try and see if they help.

You need more than just a code scanner to diagnose a problem like this; you also need to factory service manual to lead you through the steps to solve it. I suspect that you have a problem with some component of the secondary air injection system. With this kind of a problem, you will not usually have any driveability problems. What you will have is this:

1) You will automatically fail an emissions inspection if such is required where you live;

2) Your car's emissions will be higher than allowed;

3) You may damage the catalytic converter.

As long as the check engine soon light is a steady light, you probably won't do any damage. If it starts to flash, you need to get the problem resolved quickly.

Geroge, PO1416 is a problem BANK 2 ( pass. side) AIR INJECTION take a quick look at the hose connections where the hose enters the exhaust manifold and air pump. there may be a problem with the a check valve.on manifold but have yet to see one. the Air pump runs on cold start for a few seconds on start if you want you can just start up cold and see if theres air flow out the rubber hose on . another issue is if to much mositure enters the system and freezes it may block air flow. if you drove through any big water puddles the pump can injest water into the air pump motor through the inlet and can freeze if cold enough.

Ok guys, I fixed it and FYI here is what I did.

1 The orange engine light traces to code C10 P1416; WOW, there are hundreds of results if you google this corvette code.
2 All of them deal with emissions and the air intake system.
3 I have the Black Wing air intake on it, and I have never had problems with it, but it was suspect.
4 So I took the BW off and gave it a good cleaning.
5 Reinstalled the Black Wing system and went through the following "code" reset process.

6 Put key in the ignition; turn key on; but don't start engine.
7 Punch the reset button and wait until it runs its course, takes a few seconds. The screen will be blank, no data showing.
8 With right finger punch and hold the options button; with button held take left finger and punch the fuel button 4 times...like one, two, 3, 4.
has to be done within 10 seconds or you have system failure and process must start over. Not a problem, 10 seconds is plenty of time.
9 As soon as code "C10 P1416" appears on the dash; punch reset and hold reset until it beeps; you got to catch the C10 P1416 on display,
it will only last for a second; if this code goes away...got to start over with step 6. If done correctly the code will disappear and reset button will beep.
10 Next and last punch the metric button and the system is reset.
11 Turn off key and remove key from ignition.

Put key in and start vett like usual; if orange engine light is gone you won...if not start over with step #6 and redo until success.
I got it right on my 3rd try; got to hit those buttons just right. Of course it would work better if you have a scan tool.
Now all is well with me and my C5. Thanks to all...
