    A/C hood Support

As you know, the 66 A/C hood supports were moved to the left side and a crude hole was cut into the frame to allow the support bracket to be attached with Pop Rivets. This set up often started to deteriorate after a while, as mine did. So I ground out the rail and reinforced it from the inside , replaced it, and glassed over everything . Including the crudely ground out hole in order to start over again fresh. Fast forward 10 years later , and I now can not find the pictures I took of it before I did all this .

So, My question are these : Was the hole cut and the bracket installed before or after blackout?

The difference would be a raw glass appearance at the hole, and unpainted rivets if installed afterwards, or all blacked out if installed before hand .

Anyone have any pictures of the hole and set up ? As that would help as well .

    Thanks

    Jim

Should be before blackout, but I dont have pictures to support that.

Thanks for the feedback Wayne. I will await others for some photos.

I probably have some pictures somewhere, but I cant confirm that the black out hasn't been redone. Like other bodies it would have been known that it was an AC car and would have been done in the body shop, thus before blackout.

          Wayne ,

I agree with you , and it makes sense to me that it was done that way. The only reason I even posted the question is because I thought I "remembered" the rivets being natural looking, and of course if that were true than it was done afterwards.

I also vividly remember dating all three of " Charlies Angles " back in the day , but I can't find anyone who will confirm that either !

          Thanks again,

          Jim

Well that and I would still like to see some examples of the slot cut out !

Okay, the hood was not original. Are you saying in your thread about "A/C hood Support" that all A/C '66 and later with a driver side hood support will have had the attaching point for the support to hood "moved" to a different location on the hood frame (with pop rivets)? I will find this on all these mid-years (unless the mold was changed at some point)? Is this the correct fix for my problem in my post?

                John -

The anomalies/variations seen on '66 hood supports are described in the new 5th Edition '66 JG on page 157; for '67, it was simpler (small-block supports on the RH side, big-block supports on the LH side).

                    Hi Jim,

Funny you post this question today. We just held a judging school yesterday with a 5 star Bowtie '66 convertible with AC. We took some time with the hood support and the crude cut in the hood. I don't have a picture, but the rivets were natural as I recall. I will email the owner and ask him to confirm and perhaps send a picture.
