64 voltage regulator mounting screws - which ones do I use

The ones on the left are the type listed in most of the parts catalogs. The three on the right are the ones I took off my car.
Which type of screw is correct, and if neither, where do I get the right kind?

Hi Shane, if the VR was mounted on your radiator metal support, then the ones you removed look correct. The others are for fiberglass fenderwell mounting. My 64 screws have an 'E' on the head and resemble yours.

From a Mar64 car. Do not believe the side mounting started until 65 or really late 64, but in Mar64 it was still on radiator support.

Thanks guys. It looks like I will put it back on with those screws.

A quick question about the picture above:

My car didn't have that black wire coming off of the top mounting point behind the resistor. What is that wire and where is it supposed to go?

That's a ground wire. Now some conflicting information exists in the 64AIM.

Sec12 sheetA8.00 and Sec6 sheetB4.00. Note the conflict in the location of the VReg. My Mar64 car has it as shown in Sec12. Now as you will see there exists a conflict in the ground wire when you look at these sections. Expect that when GM mounted the VReg on the side an independent ground back to the horn relay was required, but again 64 did not use that arrangement (side mount). I can not find the drawing showing the ground between the radiator support and VReg however in the past I have. Regardless a ground needs to be someplace in the subject area.

I have a better photo of the entire area, if you need send me an email. The site
is very restrictive on the size of photo so a shrinkage of the photo results in a photo of little use when it comes to detailed questions (can't zoom)

              Alan -

When the voltage regulator was attached to the radiator support, the radiator support provided the ground, just as it did in '63; no separate ground wire was required.
