    69 Wiper Motor Mystery

From other posts, have read that wiper motor was not painted. From attached photos, you can see from the pump body was painted silver as well as the case.

Now here is the mystery, see the 2 stamps with K inside of a circle. First, what do these stamps mean, K as a month date code? Second, if it was a repaint, the stamps would be covered. But the body is supposed to not be painted ...

Last question, strip to bare, repaint or leave alone? Definitely not messing with the stamps ...

Hope the photos post, a newbie ...

    Thanks, Robert

On my SB 69 the pump was rebuilt once and it also was painted. I removed the paint. I did not see the letter on the body of the motor or the pump. The sticker on the plastic cover is probably a rebuild sticker, it is not suppose to be there. There is a sticker on the body of the motor that is needed and you can by them on line with the correct numbers if you give them the build date.

Has it ever been sent out for a restoration? Some of them do what they call a driver type an just paint them instead of having the unit re-plated.

I am curious, does your unit have three waser ports on the other side. my 69 has six washer ports. I can,t see the other ports on the other side in your picture.

I am restoring an L-36 project with many parts that came in boxes, so I have no history and don't know if the wiper motor was previously restored or not. It has three main ports. The other ports are supplied by the anti-drip valve as I understand, and it was missing. It mounts just over one of the Circle K stamps in the 2nd picture. I picked up the repro anti-drip from Paragon (pricey !), understand I need to get the bracket gold iridite plated to more closely approach the original.

Since what looks like the original stamps are still there, I can only surmise that it was restored, partially painted and a sticker added on the black plastic cover as Joseph posted, but they spared painting the stamps (which is a good thing!). Any other theories?

Can anyone tell me what the stamps mean?

Great forum, BTW, what did anyone do before the Internet?

          Thanks, Robert

If you go to the wiper works site they have a picture of what one looks like when it is rebuilt without the anti drip valve Assembly. You will see that it is for a 68 -?Chevelle. I would suggest that you rebuild the pump before you put it back in. No idea on the stamps. Joe

              Robert-----

Painted components of a part like this are VERY CHARACTERISTIC of commercially rebuilt parts. They want them to look "new" but they don't want to spend the extra money to have the parts replated. The yellow-stamped "K" is probably also a commercial rebuilders doing.
