    Part number help, please.

I was at my friend's house last night and the discussion of his long-gone 73 Corvette came up. He mentioned that he still had the tail light lense covers that he took off when he modified his car in 1976 - both the red ones and the ones with the clear/white back up light feature. Really? So we go to his basement shelf and he pulls down the box with the covers. They look like three year old lense covers and are still wrapped in the Detroit Free Press paper with a date of Dec. 5, 1976. So the question is, are these identical to those on my 72? I mentioned that I would buy them if they are. Second question, he has a Corvette gas tank chromed bezel, part number 3977829, still in the box with a hand written date on the box. Is this identical to the one on my 72 and, if so, I assume would be better than the ones currently being produced in reproduction. Anyone care to venture a guess as to valuation? He is a good friend without a Corvette but I woultn't take advantage of him in any way.

    thank you in advance,

    Gary

The 1973 tail and back-up lamp lenses are the same ones used for 1972.

The 3977829 fuel door bezel was used for all 1971-74 Corvettes. Value? I don't know as I don't sell parts and I have not purchased one of these in a long time. Check eBay for selling prices.

Thank you, Joe. My initial impression was that these must be the same part and I am gald that you verified that. I will visit the various vendors and see what a repro set of lenses and bezel go for and adjust my price from there. My friend's initial thought was that these have been in his basement on the shelf for almost 26 years and aren't doing him any good.
