    1967 Job Number

    00913.jpg
My 1967 VIN's is #913. The circled Job Number on the tank sticker is not complete. It's either "40" or "400" with the third digit missing. Could it be "409"? I know that this has been covered many times before, but I'm not sure what it could be.
    Thanks for your help,
    Doug

    Re: 1967 Job Number

    Doug,
As you probably know the VIN number and job number are not "related" in anyway. The job numbers I believe run from 1-500 and when they reached 500 they would start over again with 1. If that "40" or "400" is your job number you may check a couple places on the car to see if you can verify it. On my 67 I found a job number on the panel in front of the gas tank. Some have also found it on the engine side of the passenger foot well beneath the heater core. Below is a picture of the one I found. Good luck.

      Re: 1967 Job Number

The number on your tank sheet is an estimate of the serial number on a 500 cycle basis. Seldom is it the same but usually within 5 numbers plus or minus, but can be lots more plus or minus. So if your VIN # is actually 1866 like mine, your tank sheet number if estimated dead on would be 366. If your VIN# was 1366 your tank sheet number if estimated dead on would also be 366. My VIN #1866 happens to be dead on. My 67 435 is two digits less than the actual (371 instead of 373). There is no difference between coupe, convertible, St. Louis or Smith made cars. It is based on the estimated vin only. I have copies and pictures of many tank sheets and this works on every one of them. I would say the number on your tank sheet is missing a digit and your guess is as good as anyone's of what it is between "0" and "9." Whatever it is, it is plenty good enough for your vin of 913. This tank sheet number has nothing to do with the body job number that is written on your doors, floor pans, rear bulkhead etc. Also...that is some list of options...congrats.

        Re: 1967 Job Number

Just to add another example to what Henry and Gary have accurately contributed...I own serial number 5642 and the job number on my tank sticker is 139 (off by 3 from the general pattern obviously). The "off by 3" was confirmed by another NCRS Discuss contributor who owns a car built the same day. If the first 2 numbers in your job number are indeed "40", then your guess of 409 would be a decent guess (off by 4 from general pattern), but still a guess. If you can find somebody with a car built the same day, you could maybe find out more definitively if they could confirm how much the job numbers deviated from the general pattern that day (or would it be shift?). Maybe you can get lucky and find the job number on the car somewhere as Henry suggests.

My 65 job number is N272 and the vin is 14790. Can someone tell me how those two numbers relate?

They don't. About the only thing you can say is that it is an AOS body. It should be about the 6772 th one built.

It actually body A-2600. It's a coupe if that makes any difference.

The total number would be split between coupes and convertibles. With about 37% being coupes, that number is reasonable.

My '67 has vin #17,534, a build date of April 19 and a just discovered job number in yellow crayon of a backwards six proceeding 216 on pass. floorboard and panel in front of the gas tank. What's this backwards six all about?

Your car is 12 before mine. Mine is a St. Louis body. I am guessing it is an AOS body and that backward 6 is actually an O or P.

                          Hello;
My '67 has VIN .18202 w/ job number 117 on outside of gas tank bulk head, on interior of both doors, and on outside of passenger toe pan. Hope this helps your question.

My '67 is VIN 00326, job number found behind gas tank looked like A167. Car is AOS
I expected it would be 320-330? Does this seem correct.

I don't know about all these other numbers, I was only talking about the penciled in number that is circled on the tank sticker, not sure if any of those other numbers especially on pre'67 cars, is the same. There were no other numbers on my car to see beyond what was on the tank sticker.
