63 muffler ground straps question

    63 muffler ground straps question

    Were the rear muffler hanger copper sheets and braided ground straps used together or is just the copper sheets, I am a little confused by the JM it states in mid may the braided straps only. My car is a Mar. built
    New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.

    Edward,

    Owned a 14,XXX bought from the original owner and it had only the brass sheets on both sides. NO braded copper ground straps.

      Joe, whats with JM it states copper sheets. brass sheets?

        Well then, the JM needs to be fixed!!!!!

        NOT copper but copper and Tin! That makes Brass!!!

        Very Brittle and will break easily. Broke too many!

        I think all the reproductions are correct.

          I tried my best to use brackets with the brass sheets with my latest aluminized/welded exhaust system, but finally had to cut them off and applied the braded copper ground straps due to the vibration that the brass sheets transmitted to the frame. I believe that the repros are too stiff/heavy gauge and nulify the rubber portions ability to isolate the vibration.

          Anyone else have that problem?
