Hi Lyndon,
Because of the location of the washer bottle and neck, (and surge tank, on cars so equipped), I think it's easier through the side egg-crate grill.
The grill presents it's own problem though in that the nut for the lower stud on the grill is is a bit tricky to reach from below with the car on the ground.

Mine is a LT1 w/ac. No washer bottle or over flow tank so it maybe easier for me.

In addition to the ones in the photo that Grant posted is one that I found on a 1971 that i parted out. (2nd from left)
