Should i replace or restore 427 side emblems???

Has anybody successfully repainted 427 Side emblems? Mine are in pretty good shape, but the paint is faded and chipped in some places.

Should i just replace them and frame the originals, leave them with their current patina, or attempt to repaint them?

    Christopher,
You have nothing to lose by trying to restore the emblems. I restored my '66 427 emblems several years ago (and subsequently received top flight, with no deductions for the emblems). Pick up some Testors model paints. Do one emblem at a time so that you can refer to the other as a reference. I first stripped the emblem with acetone, then mixed Testors 1103 red, 1140 brown and a yellow (for which I don't have the number). With some patience, an eye dropper for proportioning, and a bit of thinner, you should be able to come up with a perfect match. Unfortunately, I didn't record the proportions.
    Good luck,
    Jeff

You can't lose ANY originality points when using the orginal part. I ALWAYS favor using the original part no matter what the condition. But that's just me.

I looked at the reproduction emblems for sale and on another 66 and the paint is dark red/maroon. Is that the correct color. Mine are more orange red, but they are faded, so i am not sure if that is correct or not. The front emblem i purchased off ebay that is supposed to be NOS, is also dark red/maroon in color.

        Thanks

Never say never. Only if the part is original in the judge's opinion!

Chris, don't forget about the archives. Below are two threads that should help. In the first one, Jerry goes all out with a color test in post #6. The other thread has some good pictures of the orange color.

Thanks! I did search the archives three different times, but did not come up with anything pertaining to specific color. Obviously, i should have kept searching with different terms.
