    Best place to sell?

    Moderators:

If this is not appropriate please delete.

When selling a late model Corvette, what would be your advertising choice for best results, meaning fewest tire kickers and more real, honest buyers.

    Driveline
    CF
    Usedcorvettesforsale.com
    Cars.com
    Other?

    Thanks

    Re: Best place to sell?

I sold one for a friend last year on CF.

The good news is that the audience is all Corvette. The bad news is that they expect a low price. He got a bit more than what the dealer would give him on a wholesale, but less than if he had time to wait.
Unfortunately he didn't (moved out of state) so went with what he got.
The buyer admitted the car was far nicer than what he expected. I felt good about that since I spent a day detailing it.

I'd try it again, but do your pricing homework first - including similar sales on CF.
    And, pictures sell.

      Re: Best place to sell?

Corvette Forum prices and membership expectations seem to be VERY low to me. Many of the CF guys expect folks to give their Vettes away. I guess that CF is good place if you are buying, but , in my view, not so good if you are selling.

      IMHO

        Thanks guys

I have been watching CF (i am not a member) and the asking prices seem to be in line with other places. Just don't know if that gets any acceptable results. I guess the only way to know is to try!

Many dealers are paying premium prices for good cars right now. No hassle. If you are close to Ohio or can deliver. Let me know what you have !!!

I have had good luck with Cars-On-Line

Sold various makes of cars on that site

Reasonable fees and runs till it is sold

These are good sites, including Mecum if you want to fool with it. However, it seems that some of these have greater listings of vintage or custom cars, like C1s, C2s, and C3s. If you're truly talking about about a late model car, I would use Craig's List, Cars.com, and then maybe Usedcorvettesforsale. With a late model (unless there is something really special about it) you should have more interested buyers locally so you won't have to worry about a long distance sale and shipping. It is better to deal with a local buyer. That gives you the chance to control the transaction in front of your own eyes. That means more tire kickers ("strokers"), but it also means more people on the ground. Strokers are part of the game. 95% of any used car sale is to get the person to see it, touch it, kick the tires.

One other thing. Take the car to some local shows and put a sign on it. Maybe you'll get a serious hit.

              Paul

P.S. Here's another site that I keep up with. I have never sold anything here, but it has a broad audience, including Corvette people: http://www.collectorcarnation.com/?from=footer

I know some will not like it but Creig's list is not a bad place. Just be careful of all the foreign scammers. I am looking for a 06 & up Conv. to take short trips out here & have found some nice Corvettes on the Phoenix Creigs list. CF & Corvettes for sale are other good places. GOOD LUCK

The Corvette Forum is free and reaches an extremely large audience. There is no charge. The last 2 newer Corvettes I have purchased were through ads on the Forum. I have also had good luck selling on Craigslist.

Final update: I sold my 2007 Z06 today. It was listed on eBay for 4 days. I got a fair price. The buyer turned out to be a fellow NCRS member and also a pilot like me. Turns out we have several mutual friends through flying.

I did not advertise anywhere else.

What experience do folks have in using the Driveline. I have a 74-454 I am considering selling and thought the Driveline was a good start. I expect everyone wants a good deal, but thought NCRS folks might value originality better than the general Corvette population...?

I was going to suggest EBAY, but the car is already gone.

I sold one Corvette and bought one Corvette, both THROUGH EBAY ads. I didn't sell/buy them on EBAY through their process.

When I sold my 54, my "sale" ad was seen there, and I sold the car a month or so later to the EBAY contact.

I bought a 2000 convertible through an ad on EBAY a year later. It was a dealer sale. After the auction, I contacted the dealer, drove up to Cherry Hill, NJ, looked at it, and bought it.

Driveline is going to put your ad in front of the NCRS membership, and there may be a buyer there. I would certainly try it, but the number of people who look at these ads are a very, very small part of the market. Craig's List, AutoTrader, E-Bay, CF, and UsedCorvettesforsale.com are much better bets, especially if used in sequence. It's a lot like fishing. If you aren't getting any bites at one spot, move on.
