I understand that the "counterfeit" language allows NCRS judges to reject a car for numerous reasons, that is not what I am talking about. I am saying that many cars over the years have been altered and "restored" and thus have pieces and parts that may not conform and the new owners do not know this but present their cars for judging in good faith to learn and enjoy the hobby. They have and they do, without being thrown out of the judging. I do hope NCRS would not act like a bunch of little old ladies and throw the person and car out by using this counterfeit clause, I have not seen that happen, have you? Maybe in Canada it is different than here.

The 8th Edition of the Judging Reference Manual came out in January 2011. It has a section on the differences in counterfeit and restoration.

The 7th does too, along with the exact definitions from Webster.

Excellent note Roy, and a good rant too, thanks.

As long as they're called what they are and marked down accordingly, that's as it should be and there is no problem. Let me say I recognize how hard it is for judges to stay ahead of the counterfeiters and I appreciate their efforts to do so. I think the original questionin the thread was thought provoking. And,yes, this is a hobby, but a rather expensive one, and unless you've got so much money it doesn't matter, or you just don't care, it makes sense to try to separate the real deal from otherwise when you put your money down. Distinguishing between the 2 also preserves the integrity of our hobby.

Maybe a good example of a corvette with an NOM engine being judged and a top flight award being given might be the "Last Sting Ray" owned by Proteam. Can anyone comment on how that all came about and what issues, if any were encountered?

                Thanks.

                  Michael,
An individual or a car can be removed from the judging process that determination is made based on what we uncover with respect to a deceptive process. I cannot remember a situation where the owner has been removed from the judging process recently. With that said a second offense will most likely get the owner removed from the judging process and the capability exists within the bylaws of the organization for a member to be removed from the organization by the board of directors. I can tell you there have been three situations I am aware of that this occurred in the last 25 plus years. One was directly related to a judging field experience that occurred back in the 1990 to 95 time frame.

Appropriate deductions were made for a restoration motor and the deductions were noted on the score sheets.

Thanks Roy, I am relieved to hear this is a very rare occurrence and thus think the judges will always err on the side of innocent until proven guilty and giving the benefit of the doubt as to motive to new members who are not as experienced and astute as you and the master judges.

Totally agree, before we get into broach marks, door jams, paint gloss, and all those other kinds of subjects....
