C2 Standard Under Car Exhaust Details

    All,

There has been a lot of discussion about N-11 under car exhaust but little (with the searching I have done) about standard under car exhaust. I recently purchased a < 10,000 mile 67 corvette (title history documented) with what appears to be the original exhaust. The tank sticker does not show the N-11 option so I am taking this as being Standard under car exhaust. The pictures below are of the underside of a muffler. Each has an embossed letter "A" and black-out paint. There is NO part numbers or any other markings on the mufflers. Also, the bends before the muffler have a distinct indentation. Is this consistent with original not service replacement exhaust?

If this has been addressed can you please point me to the existing thread(s)

    Thanks
    Daniel

From what I can see, the system appears to be an original, factory-installed exhaust system. The only thing I find a bit unusual is the "A" on a non-N-11 installation. IN GENERAL, Arvin manufactured the N-11 systems and Walker manufactured the standard undercar systems. Externally, there's no way to discern a standard system from an N-11, though.

By the way, from the looks of them I'd say these mufflers are "not long for this world". Corrosion in the areas seen usually indicates advanced internal corrosion. Internal corrosion is what "kills" most mufflers.

        Terry and Joe,

Thanks for the information! Yes, the exhaust is "not long for this world". I removed it today to get some photos of the tank sticker.

If you like, I would be happy to take that old rusty exhaust out of your hands.
