    72 brake line questions - part 2

The attached picture shows the brake line from the proportioning valve to the left front flex line. I'm assuming it's original...

In shopping for replacements, I found one that resembles the shape of the one in my picture - http://corvetteparts.com/item/line-l...ke%20line&itm=.

Most others I've found resemble this - https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...e-line-lh.aspx.

Which is correct? Are there other sources of brake lines I should be considering?

    Thanks
    Randy

I don't see armor on yours - I suspect it has been replaced.
Hundreds of photos of my car yet this is one of those small parts I can't see on any of them.

In any event, the armored one from Paragon is my guess - though I can check at some point if needed.

The left front brake line from the distribution block to the flexible line is configured like the one shown in the Paragon link. I don't think the original was armored but it's possible it was. I don't know what the line shown in the Davies link is.

Addendum-----I checked another reference. The line was supposed to be armored for 1970-73. For 1968-69 it was not armored.

        Hi Randy,
Here's a picture of the short brake line frm my 71.
The armor is about half the length of the line and pretty well frozen where you see it.
        Regards,
        Alan

I removed the original (I believe t to be anyway) from my '72 last week. I also already have a replacement that I purchased from Classic Tube. I'll take a pic later and post it. that should help. Good luck.

The originals armor spiraling looks 'thinner' with more coils, than the replacement. Same overall length though. Not knocking it, just a casual observation!

                Randy-

Your existing line appears to be very close or actually touching the edge of the inner fender. Be aware that the fibreglass can and will fret right through the brake line leading to almost complete loss of brakes. This happened to me the day after I arrived home from a 5400 mile road trip. There's a reason GM used armour in that area. I'd use the configuration that Paragon is offering, it provided more clearance.

I'll be... exactly what Michael Ward predicted. I felt a little "give" as I was loosening the fittings, so I suspect that there must have been a weak point. Never thought this would happen!

Since this line is scrap anyway, you might cut through it and see if it suffers from internal corrosion. This should be evident if you make a nice clean cut through the line.

Took two cuts - no corrosion visible. Walls were full thickness. Having said that, this is a "newer" line. I also noticed that one of the trailing arm steel lines was armored, which I believe was done pre-1968. I have new trailing arm lines on order, so will also dissect the "correct" one to make sure that there's no corrosion in older / possibly original lines.

                          Randy

We have come to conclusion that armor was only used on big block cars from 1968 to 1972 because of the addition of a rear sway-bar hence non rear sway-bar cars did not have the armor.
