    1967 Wheel Trim Ring Identification

Attached are two pictures of a rally wheel trim ring. From what I rembember this trim ring ins not correct for a 1967 Corvette since they had far less clips on tha back. Can anyone tell me what this trim ring would fit? It is 15 inch wheel diameter trim ring.

    Thanks,

    James West

I'd say a later GM SERVICE replacement wheel trim ring that would fit most any 15" GM wheel. Pete

The original ones had only 4 clips that went on the very outside of the rim, so the waits had to be only put on the inside on the rim, and the valve stem whole did not have any straight sides to it.

and the valve stem opening had to line up with one of the clips

Probably a GM #9796696 which was the SERVICE trim ring for 1967 Corvettes ever since the original GM #3901708 was discontinued in May, 1975. The 9796696 was originally a part for some Pontiac application and was used as a SERVICE replacement for the 3901708. Most likely, this resulted from the fact that the 3901708 was a one-year-only piece with limited application and GMSPO wanted to consolidate part numbers.

The 3901708 trim ring is listed in my Chevrolet Parts Catalogs (April 1967, July 1967, Oct. 1967, Oct. 1968, Jan. 1970, Feb. 1970, Oct. 1970) in Gr. 5.871 for the following:
            67 Corvette w/15 X 6 JK wheel
67 Pass. (Sta. Wag.) w/disc brakes
67 Pass. w/15X6JK wheel (exc. Sta. wag., Caprice)
            68 Pass. w/spec. wheel
            68 Camaro w/15" wheel
            69 Camaro w/Disc Brk.
            68-69 Pass.
70 Pass., Monte Carlo w/ Rally Wheel
            70 Camaro w/Sp. H/Per. 350 (Jan. 70 catalog, ?????, possibly very early models)
The description is "RING ASSY., wheel trim (165/8" O.D.) 4 clip attachment (15 X 6 JK)".

The 9796696 trim ring first appears in my 1971 Pontiac Parts Catalog (Sept. 1970) and my 1971 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Jan. 1971) for the following:
71 Monte Carlo w/ rally wheel
            69-70 Pontiac 8 cyl. w/Rally II wheels
            70 Firebird 8 cyl.
The 9796696 trim ring is described as "RING ASSY. wheel trim (165/8" O.D.)(15 X 7 JK)(2 3/8" wide)

Re: 1967 Wheel Trim Ring Identification

I have another question regarding the '67 rally wheels. Where is the "DC" stamp located on the wheel?

Next to the valve stem hole on the outside surface
