    Which would you rather have?

All things being equal a top flight car with the original factory installed engine, but with no factory

paperwork. Or a top flight car with a correct non orginal motor (not a restamp) but with factory

paperwork (the POP or window sticker or tank sticker) ?

                Hi,
The engine is part of what it 'is', the paperwork is part of what it 'was'.

It makes me laugh at how quick everyone is willing to discount the value of a documented car the has had a misfortune with it's original engine. Sounds to me like it's Bowtie award or nothing!!

Re: Which would you rather have?

I'll take the original motor car. I am very suspicious of all the paperwork that has come out of the woodwork in recent years. Seems to coincide with all the money involved and the big ticket auctions. It seems like all the rare optioned cars and big blocks all come with paperwork.

I don't think that anyone is discounting a documented car that has lost its original motor at all. I believe they are simply stating that if they had to choose, then most here would in fact prefer a car with its original motor and no docs vs. a documented car but NOM with myself included. BTW, I would gladly take a 67 L88 that is documented but lost its original engine

Without paperwork it ain't worth much, and an original motor is not that important and without paperwork it is suspect anyway, so the NOM top flight with all the paperwork (including owner history) for me, and I would restamp the motor to be correct and accurate.

I agree with you. I would like to know what it is, is what it was from the factory & not just the engine. To me to know that the other options on the Corvette are origional to the car are as importent.

Paul, the OP's premise was actual original motor vs. actual original paperwork. I'm just as leary of the quality of the work by restampers in recent years as I am about paperwork forgery. As for the OP's question, I'll take the original motor over the original paperwork. You'll never (or very rarely) have the chance to find and reinstall the original engine, but paperwork may turn up in the future from an unexpected source.
