C2 steering wheel new or restore

In researching the archives, I can't find a listing of anyone who can restore a 67 steering wheel. Anybody know someone who can do it correctly or is a repo the only option? Also, how do the repos stack up to an original in terms of quality & appearance. Is there more than 1 mfr of repo 67 s. wheels, if so where is the best place to purchase the best ones? Thanks

      Al,

I don't know who (if anyone) restores original steering wheels, but if no one does, I would definitely try to find a good used one.

Eric Freeman does the repro Teak wood steering wheels, he might also restore originals (plastic and teak), his number is 704-510-2250.

        Al,
If your wheel has significant cracks or other damage almost all repairs will show up if you drive the car after repairs are made.
I would go with a repro although I do not know how they judge.

I believe Rich Dunham from the Michigan Chapter restores mid-year steering wheels. He has an ad in The Driveline I believe. He may be a poster here, in which case you can get him throught he members link on the radio button bar at the top of the page. Click "COMMUNITY" above.

I had the steering wheel repaired and restored on my 63 by Gary's Steering Wheel Restoration about 6 years ago and I think he did an excellent job and it looks as good today as it did when he finished it. His email address is wheelrest@aol.com or phone 717-243-5646

I just checked CF. There is at least one still for sale. They are getting 250.00 to 300.00. PM me if you want a phone #.

Richard does solid axles and "one color" wheels like the early midyears. I have never seen him do a 67 style plastic wheel and I suspect he's busy enough that he's not going to branch out into that color.

Bruce, my wheel doesn't have any cracks, just some primer overspray and mold/grime which I can't seem to clean off. I've looked at 1 repo in person- not close on the plastic part. Talked to folks at Paragon and they told me it's pretty much the same lighter shade of brown with heavy woodgrain pattern and small holes on the backside from the molding process. Not close. I read in my searches that Richard only does the straight axle wheels. Will check with wheelrest to see if they do a 67 as well as checking on CF. Thanks all who replied
