    C2 Instrument Wiring help!!

    Hey gang need your help.
Removed my radio and sent it to Jerry Rudbeck. Now trying to get in back in. Was going in fine, except I found 2 wires that I can NOT figure where they go.
    1) Small red wire with single prong (black) lays right behind the cigarette lighter. Sparks so its hot. Someone put a pc of tape on it marked lights but I cannot see where it plugs in at.

    2) When trying to get the radio in, a silver tubluar capsule fell down. Has a clip on it. Grey wire and located right behind the clock. Same issue. Where does it clip to??

When going through the panel, The headlights won't go up or down so I figure its related to the one of those issue.

Any help is appreciated. Man, that radio is a pain....

Wes, the gray wire attaches to the back side of the clock housing at the bottom center way. It is the light for heater controls. It just slides onto a tang at the bottom of the housing. The red wire should be for the cig lighter.

      Al,
Many thanks. So..the prong just slides onto to the back of the lighter? And the light behind the clock faces out (toward engine) correct?
Last question, what about the lights? Blown fuse?

Wes, yes to the 1st 2 questions. Check to make sure the connector has not come loose from the switch, if not, then check the fuse.

Wes, fuse the cig lighter (not stock, but assures car will be around for a while)

              Alan,

I think I may have done this a few years ago but if not what size fuse did you use?

                Wes -

You didn't say what year you have, but if it's a '67, the lighter circuit is fused; that was the first year for a fuse in that circuit. The "torpedo" light for the heater controls that slips into the slot at 6 o'clock below the clock has the bulb end facing the rear of the car, not toward the engine.

As John pointed out 67 (first C2) had the fuse. They used a 20Amp however that powered the clock, courtesy lamps & hazard warning also.
Since it is the dead short which causes the problem I would recommend a 15Amp fuse since the wire to the lighter is 14 gauge - most listings rate that gauge for 15Amps.
