66 console question -no holes ?

Still restoring a 66 and have finally got to the interior. This car was apart when i got it so I'm not sure if everything was from this car. While intstaling the center console i discovered that there are no holes at the end for the seat belt holder. Maybe I have something rare, (probably not)a after market, or I don't know. Do I have the right console??
Should I drill out and tap two hole? or am I not doing something right?
    It looks and fits right.

is there any other differences, and would it be a mistake to drill and tap?

Service replacements I believe came that way. I had to drill and tap mine.

            Bill,

Not sure which year console you have , 64, or 67, or service replacement , but you do need to drill. As to the tapping, does it have the thicker tabs in the back, or is it just the same thickness as the rest of the edge ? The ones from the factory were beefed up quite a bit in that area. Unless those tab are there , I would Use some kind of nut or clip in the rear as an attachment for the screws.

Here is what one that is drilled at the factory , looks like .

            Hope this helps,

            JIm

Original ones were drilled and then the screw they used cut the threads. What I did on mine was drill and used a self tapping screw to thread the hole so that I could then use the correct sheet metal type of screw. Using a self tapping screw to cut the threads would tap harder than using a real tap so a good tap(that is sharp) would not present a problem at all as far as cracking.

MAKE SURE YOU CENTER THE SEAT BELT HOLDER BRACKET SO THAT THE SCREWS GET DRILLED INTO THE THICK PART OF THE CONSOLE.
