Hello fellas; I am looking for some help in finding some ORIGINAL conveyor belt material that GM used in 1963 to fabricate the front air scoops used on the Z06 brakes. I have photos showing the texture of both sides of the rubber. It has a frabric showing on one side and black rubber like the skin on an elephant on the other. I am sure that there is a roll of this stuff in a ware house some where in this country, I just need some help finding it or a pair of NOS original scoops. If anyone can help in this hunt, please contact me. Thanks so much, Andy

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
Bill is correct, but I don't know anyone who has tried hard to find any year material for 57-64 ears.
I would start with the old tire guys, as my best guess is that FIRESTONE RUBBER supplied the original raw product. Let me ask a few old GM engineers.Over 80 Corvettes of fun ! Love Rochester Fuel Injection 57-65 cars. Love CORVETTE RACE CARS

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
Andy
when you ask for some kind of unobtainium piece of material or hardware, I automatically think of McMaster-Carr Co.. I think if it exists in the world, they sell it.
Here is a link to their Raw Materials page in the PDF catalog. http://www.mcmaster.com/#raw-materials/=gpv6gi
I see at the top of the page a link to email or call them, to ask for what you want. If you would call tomorrow and ask for that "old original conveyor belt material from back in the 60s" I bet they just might have that left over roll of it you are seeking.
Good luck- Top

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
My long time Z0-6 , GM Engineer that many of us know says
''The conveyor belt material was manufactured by U.S. Rubber
Corporation. They produced a wide range of conveyor material; the one used
on the elephant ears was "light" material handling webbing. Each time a
plant closes in the Detroit area I take' a look. Unfortunately nothing has
surfaced to date.
I've attached Chevrolet's supplier code ID for US Rubber. It's my
understanding the biggest user of this material was the food and beverage
industry. ''

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
Have you talked to the guy that makes the repo front scoops. I think he advertises big brake items in the driveline. There are a couple different repo front early scoops out there and one is not very correct material. I have a set of used tired 57 original scoops and also the not so correct repo's.

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
Andy, If you would have asked me same question in late 60's I could have given you a stack of the original scoops. They came from the Grady Davis Gulf Research car that Dr. Blatchely owned. Kept them around for about 10 years until my Dad cleaned up "his" garage and all the race car parts went to the junk yard. Seems no one wanted that stuff in the old days. Tru story. JD- Top

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
Bought one NOS set from Mike Pilsbury (RIP) and that set had the part number on each in WHITE, yes WHITE NUMBERS. They were placed on a White/Black ZO-6 Coupe small tank.
JR
PS. I would think an NOS set WITH part numbers would cost in excess of $10,000 today!- Top

Re: 1963 Z06 air scoops
Thanks Mike,
Now that we have established that NEW or NOS scoops HAD Part Numbers stamped on each one, I wonder why the pictures of the above NEW, Low Milage scoops don't have a part number stamped on them??????
