1967 Big Block A/C Four Speed Car

I purchased a '67 400 hp. 4-speed convertible to restore. It has the front license bracket in the center like most mid-years but I saw a coupe at a show in Houston that had the front license bracket under the left front bumper. I do not remember if the car was an automatic or not. What is the correct position for the front license bracket for a 400 hp. 4-speed '67 with A/C?

For C-60-equipped 67's the license plate bracket should be under the left front bumper.

      Joe,
If I was under the impression that the licence plate was under the left front bumber on only the 67, 427, C-60, automatic cars. I have been working on one (400 H.P.) for over twenty years and all this time the only other 67 with the licence plate under the bumper, that I have seen, have been on similar cars.
The automatic (power glide) is the key to having it moved. Actually the combination of the three is the key.

That is the what I thought as well, it's the combo of BB, AC, and M40 that moved the bracket under the bumper.

That was my belief as well as the design, I believe, repositioned the license plate frame/bracket under the bumper so as to not inhibit air from cooling the trans cooler for automatic cars that obviously was mounted in front of the radiator. Had the license bracket been mounted in the center, it would have reduced the airflow to the trans cooler. (Steve, I will call you tonight).

My 400/air coupe 4-speed was centered like all the rest but my 400/air auto was under the left bumper away from the cooler.

I agree. It takes the auto trans to move the license plate to the left of center on BB with factory air.

EDIT: Pictures and explanation(s) are found in Noland's Book on C2 Restoration......in the 1967 model section on air conditioning. Page 408.

It could very well be that the left side license bracket was limited to 1967 big blocks with C-60 and M-35. As I think about it I have seen very few cars with the left side license plate. However, the RPO does not limit its applicability to such a combination. The RPO specifies only that it be used with C-60. P&A information does specify that it is used only with 427 and C-60 and M-35, though.

Thanks to everyone for all of your replies. I'm convinced my car is correct the way it is. It was taken off the road in 1972. It looks like I won't be looking for the off-set license bracket after all. Thanks again to everyone.
