    Engine stamping

    Hello Folks

    I notice on a 1975 coupe, L48 base motor car, that the VIN stamp on the engine pad starts with a 1. 15S408061. However the VIN # is 1Z37J5S408061. I have looked at both closely with a magnifier and the VIN has a J and the block has a 1. The car built date is C 12 = December 12, 1974. The block was stamped the 1st week of December. Any suggestions?

          Thanks for the response. Appreciate the info. Hope everyone in the Corvette World is getting their cars ready for the summer.

              The engine, frame, and transmission stamps are VIN derivitives.

              1 Corvette
              5 1975
              S St. Louis, Missouri
              408601 consecutive unit number.
