The JG indicates that only the "M" drain plug is correct; actually, there were multiple vendors, and the "L", "A", and "TR" drain plugs were also used. The two engine plants used about 12,000 of these things every day, and they didn't all come from one vendor. Photo below (from Jack Humphrey, I think) shows the other three drain plugs.

Thanks John, Someone in the last 49 years buggered up the the threads in my pan, so I've chased the threads with a tap. To avoid screwing (pun?) them up again, I am making a new MAThread version of the plug from scratch. The current plug does not have any head mark, so I know its wrong. My head marking options are open, so I'll just pick one of the four you noted and burn it on the new head...

Peter, While I'm at it, it'd be easy to make one to give to all the guys in the Chapter , but, we have to keep it a secret ....
