Current judging manual states a thick paper gasket was used.

        Re: 63 Gas Cap question

My original (19,xxx) has a thick paper type gasket. I don't use it anymore due to the single vent hole design (when using ethanol laced fuel), rather for every day I use the later design with the two way valve (vacuum/pressure) that is still available as a service replacement, or my locking cap for mixed car shows.

          Ed -

Long Island has the fiberboard/paper gasket, so does Paragon.

FYI. My experience is that the LI gasket (I don't know about Paragon's) is ~9/32" wide and fills up the entire groove of the gas cap while the original gaskets were ~7/32" - 8/32" wide and did not completely fill the groove of the gas cap. Picky, picky, picky but that's what separates a "reproduction" from the "real deal" or an "exact reproduction." You don't gotta go the extra 1/32". You gotta love this hobby. Pete

You know the reproductions are always a little off, just to keep it interesting...

                Re: 63 Gas Cap question

The original gaskets were brown paper and look smaller than the reproduction from Long Island because from age they have shrunk a bit.....

Andy - Interesting. Personally, I don't think so. How long do we have to wait for them to age and shrink and look like an original? Pete

hi Stuart, why is it different with ethanol? is it because of the fast evaporation if it sits in the tank? and i can see why for the locking gas cap.
                      take care,
