    Judging Question

Good evening I have just joined NCRS and have a question regarding judging. I have a 67 Roadster that needs a new top (the current one is not the original). My question is if I purchase a replacement top that does not includes the Production Date embossing option will I loose points when I have the car judged in June?

    Regards

Welcome Harvey, Yes you will lose points for no or incorrect date. You also need the white tag that is sown on. Maybe someone else can tell you how many point loss.

      Re: Judging Question

Welcome to NCRS and the sometimes agonizing "preparing my car for Flight judging" process. As someone who bought a vintage Corvette and THEN joined NCRS, I would like to offer some free advice.

Be careful from whom you buy parts. I spent a bunch of money on replacement parts from well-known Corvette suppliers, only to later find that the new repro parts were ripped during Flight judging. I never buy any parts, now, without going on this forum, first. Other than that, Long Island Corvette Supply fits the bill for nearly all Sting Ray (the real ones: '63-'67) parts.

Harvey, welcome to the club. My top is missing the logo & date. I lost 4 points for originality and 4 points for condition with a notation "missing/wavy". You can buy a warning label and install it if that is missing. Certainly a lot of $ for 8 points if your top is otherwise in decent shape. I had my 66 judged for the first time last June at the London Ontario regional, a great experience. Using my judging sheets over this winter I believe I have been able to make corrections to the tune of 90+ points. Try to make sure your operations all check out OK. Ted

I have had the car for a year. It won Top flight in 1996 and I am going to try and see how well its held together for judging in May.

It appears we are following a similar path. I have had my 66 for just over two years and it acheived a Top flight in 1991. A lot can happen in two decades,i.e. parts age, wear, or get replaced with not so correct items. Also the knowledge base has improved/increased. My car got a 92.1 before driving points last year. Discovered during the operations check that my amp gauge was inoperative.

                Hi Harvey,
Welcome aboard. I see you are moving right along on your quest. Try to contact Murray Sobel and Paul Dumas. They are in your area, are Ontario Chapter members, know your car from the past and I'm sure judged it before after I had it. Try to get a current judging manual and use the worksheets from the previous events to zero in on problem areas. Once all the pieces are in place, you can do a mock judging exercise in your garage prior to attending the show. Call us if you need some help.

                  Yup, that's the plan.
