Thanks for posting the info. I just checked the other AIMs, and it looks like '67 is the first year that shows the equalizer installed open end up, the '68 and '69 AIMs also show open end up, even though they were apparently installed open end down in practice.

This is just another example of the AIM being different than how it was actually done. The position of the exhaust manifold washers in relationship to the shielding brackets is another example.

Scott - here is an original equalizer from a Mar64 Note the 64AIM shows it installed the other way.
Just showing the P, no comment on finish what's left of it. Drive shaft should also be black in 64.

          Scott -

Those vertical marks are "draw marks", from the draw die as the flat blank is formed into the "U" shape as the pair of dies closes; the marks on that equalizer say that set of dies hadn't been maintained in a LONG time. The die forming operation is done with the steel at room temperature.

            John,

            Thank you for the explanation.

Do you recall what manufacturer used the "P" logo? I have found it on many parts, including the glove box striker, A/C compressor shims, headlight bucket tab J-clips, POA valve to evaporator core housing bracket, carpet support retainer clips, wiper grille U-nut clips, body mount access cover and rocker panel U-nut clips, etc.

              Scott -

Nope, I don't recall who the "P" supplier was.

                John and Scott------

One thing almost for certain, though: it was a company that few, if any, of us ever heard of and, most likely, it's no longer in business.
