    '66 427 water pump belt

Can anyone possibly provide the dimensions for this V-belt (between water pump and balancer only)? The application is a '66 roadster, factory stock pulleys, power steering, no air conditioning, and factory stock 427, 390 hp. I'm looking for an aftermarket belt such as Gates, Goodyear, etc. I believe the belt that was on the car at one time was a Goodyear #15351, which apparently, is no longer available. This belt (I understand) was 15/32 wide and 35 1/8" in outside circumference. I have not been able to find a match for this and it may not be correct either as I only have some old notes to go on.

I have a Gates #9355 (13A0900) "green stripe XL" on the engine now but it does not seem to sit in the upper pulley properly and is very noisy. I expect it is too wide for the application.

If anyone has had success with an aftermarket belt I would appreciate any information that can be provided.
Thanks much for any and all help with this request.

The original belt was GM #3837810. This belt was 34-3/8" in length and 3/8" wide. The only way you're going to find a belt of this specification is to obtain a reproduction belt as offered by Quanta.

Re: '66 427 water pump belt

When selecting this belt, note that Quanta has 2 versions of the 3837810 replacement. A Short version and a Long version. This is due to using either the repro water pump pulley, or an original. I went through this on a non A/C 1967 427 last year. Much confusion.

With the repro WP pulley, the Short version was too short. I had to use the Long version. Then we switched to a NOS WP pulley, and had to change the belt back to the edit.... short version belt.

      Short version

      Long version

Note that even though some vendors have the Quanta replacement available, some are not aware of the 2 versions. You may want to contact Quanta directly for their recommendation and to verify your requirement.

Please note I edited the above post.

Also, both Quanta versions bear the same identifying part numbers and size embossed on the belts. Also, the short version is 34.4", whereas the long version is actually 34.8".

p.s. Richard, if you use the search function for 3837810, you may see others have had similar confusing issues.

          Joe, Richard;
Thanks much for the feedback. I ordered the Quanta short belt, fingers crossed.

What happened to the "good old days" when the parts counter guy replied "how many ya need?" instead of "not in the computer!" Oh well...

Just to close the loop for anyone interested. I purchased the "short" belt from Quanta and installed it quite easily. Also, I noted the number stamped in my waterpump pulley (which I believe is factory original), it is 3864480CV.

Yes, 3864480 is the original part number for the waterpump pulley for your application. So, your pulley is either the one originally installed on the car or an original replacement.

Any Clue on L36 with AC Belt from Quanta TOO LOOSE GM#3889374..............29B-085 Outside Length was 32.25 I believe... Ill have to Check Pulley #s..but till I do......I bought the first ONE of these from Corvette America with Same GM #3889374 ( TOOLOOSE) but it was narrower than a Second Belt from Quanta Directly that had the SAME GM #s..////I returned Belt #1 and havent tried #2 yet..
? is Would a slightly Wider Belt (#2) Same Length make any difference in Fitment such as Not going into the Grooves as deeply ???Thanks

Neil, If the #2 belt from Quanta fits and corrects your problem, I'd go with it. I'm not sure if that #1 belt from CA was correct, but I'm thinking the narrower belt may not be right for a non-Hi Perf application.

Re: '66 427 water pump belt

Long Island Corvette stocks two slightly different lengths of this belt. They will send you both and you return the one that does not fit.
