    Compressor Label

    I need to buy a new Frigidaire compressor label for my '65 A/C Coupe. While the repro labels show the correct model (part?) number, it does not show the "serial number". This area of the foil label is blank. What do I need to put in the serial number space and how do I do this to approximate the factory look?

    Clark,

    Look at the bottom of the page under "similar threads."
    I opened one of them and it even told the correct font and size.

      And once you've decided on a method of stamping application, the big question is what do you type ? Nobody seems to know the code for the early to mid-'65 compressors (pic below of early '64 model 6550133). After that point the date /shift is easily explained.

        The information from the link was only partially helpful. What do you type in for the serial number? My old label has been missing for a long time so I cannot copy what was on it. And, if you cannot find a typewriter, what else can you use?

          You could find a typewriter on eBay but I don't know what you'd want it for. Certainly not for filling in these compressor labels. There's no way that a conventional typewriter would work for these.

            Clark,

            I just did 3 for a member on this forum and used the IBM selectric.

            The secret is to copy it first and the silver does not copy unless you use transparent paper over the foil sticker. You can buy it at the office store.

            Then put the copy in the typewriter and type your # on the copy sheet, when you are satisfied, tape the foil sticker over the copy and hit each # 10 or more times.

            The ink will not stick but it leaves a good impression.

            Bill Caldwell is on this forum is a good one to ask as for the #s as he has knowledge of what is what on parts and #'s.

            March 12, 1966 would be 031261

            03= March
            12= day
            6= year
            1= shift

              I was going by the information given to me by the link to an old post on the subject that suggested using a typewriter.

                Dom,

                As I also need to type in a code on a new A/C sticker, would you mind going over that procedure again, and a little slower this time .

                I may be slow , but I don't get it . I know what to type , but not how . Got any pictures of how the decal came out , or the process in general ?

                  Well, apparently I was incorrect on this one as it's been reported here that it is possible to do this. Even though an IBM Selectric can be fitted with different elements with a huge number of available font styles, it surprises me that they can duplicate the original embossing on these labels.

                    Jim,
                    Sorry I was in the shop and didn't get to reply.

                    First get some transparent paper from a office supply.

                    Then put the sticker on a piece of paper with the transparent paper over it.

                    This allows the silver to print white so you can copy your #s in the rectangle. If you try to copy sticker without transparent paper the silver is black.

                    Then put the coppied paper in typwriter and type # where you want it.

                    Then tape sticker over coppied sticker so it is exactaly the same place.

                    I use a mark to tell me where the #s start and finish to make sure I don't make a mistake.

                    Type the sticker about 10 times to make sure the imprint shows.

                    My tel # is (760) 831-2095 and I will be glad to talk to you.
