For 1966 judging purposes are the ends of the shims tucked in the frame pocket or do they extend beyond the pocket?

I believe you'll find original shims hung over the frame and were not tucked. Furthermore, original shims were not slotted as many if not all replacement shims offered will be.- Top

Ron,
Slotted shims are retained in the frame pocket with a large cotter pin that goes through a hole drilled for that purpose.- Top

Michael,
This situation is a classic case of "a little bit of knowledge is a very dangerous thing."
Long time attendees at Advanced Judging Schools will have heard this story, and I have posted it several times.
The hole in the frame for the cotter pin to secure the slotted shims began in Model Year (MY) 1969 and that AIM shows slotted rear toe shims. Those with that AIM can look up the change/release date.
Those of us who study original Corvettes (the only true source of accurate information.) know that slotted rear toe shims were first installed on Corvettes in the last week of 1970 MY production. IIRC they (slotted rear toe shims) first appeared a full calendar year after the date in the 1969 AIM. You just can't believe everything you read.
