    C1 dash pad

Can you pull out the dash pad without taking the windshield from the car? My dash looks like it was tucked under. when I removed the corner cap it just pulled from under the windshield frame..at least 6inch from the left door.. I did not want to start something I had no plans on finishing so I just tucked it back under.

I mean.. is it that simple.. or have I misled myself again.

Al, if you do a search, or if you have the Restorer CD you can find instructions for re-doing the dash pad. I believe most of those instruction show the forward edge of the pad tucked under the windshield frame. Over time and with shrinkage most will pull back some. Or at least thats what I've found in doing my research. I'll be doing a replacement pad with my rebuild of my 60 soon.

      Al,

You may be able to remove it without removing the windshield, but the windshield MUST be removed to install one. In order to prevent the dashpad edge under the windshield from curling rearward over time, the vinyl must be glued to the body in the area below the windshield. This is only one of many things to know when installing one.

There is a set of (19+)videos on youtube that Paragon made showing installation. Not descriptive enough showing all of the details but it'll give you an idea of the task.

Of particular trickery is the area behind and alongside of the instrument cluster, behind the cove insert area on the right, speaker screen & bezel, and the grab bar ends.

The windshield frame must be removed to replace a 58 to 62 dash pad along with the instrument cluster, kick panels, package tray, heater cover etc. A very tedious job but not all that hard. Lots of trial and error fitting while t******* foam behind and around instrument pod and passenger side dash cove insert. The archieves contain much information on how to do this job so give it a shot. Good luck Rich
