C2-1964 Fusible links in ignition circuit

After the winters rest, I have a non-start issue with my 64 coupe with PG transmission, NSS and BU lights. I have all lights and power. I've verified that the starter cranks the engine. I've also bench checked the ignition switch and it is OK. It has continuity between BAT and SOL lugs when in the start position. I compared it with a new replacement. I've checked continuity between the wire attached to the solenoid S terminal and the NSS connection at the firewall. I've yet to check for continuity between the solenoid S terminal and the SOL connection at the ignition connector. Need longer test leads and a helper... I also haven't removed the bulkhead connector.. A long way to go to ask my questions.. Are there any fusible links in the ignition circuit? Is there anything that I may be missing?
    Thanks..

    Ralph,

No fusible links on a '64. Unless someone added them later or fused the main feed.

So I re-read your post a few times, but still a bit confused. I'm guessing a little here and we really may need more info.

The guess.....Seems that starter won't crank in the key START position, is that correct? It sounds like you tested the starter by jumping +12v to the S terminal to see if it cranks, and you say it does, but no crank when you turn the key to START position, is that correct?

If so, my first suspect would be the Neutral Safety switch. I had a similar problem on a '63. Did you try wiggling the shifter while turning key to START?

Before you do this next test, set the e-brake and block the wheels. Make sure trans is in Park.

Underhood.......Bypass the NSS by pulling it from the 2 (purple wire) black connectors near the wiper motor. Connect those 2 (purple wire) black connectors together. This will bypass the NSS. Hold your foot on the brake. Try the key START then.

If not, then maybe the ign switch purple wire to the the bulkhead connector, or bulkhead to NSS connector. Find all of the purple wires there and check the connections.

Is this a 4 speed or automatic car?

        Hi Richard...

Yes, the starter won't crank with the key in the start position. I used a remote starter button attached to the S terminal and BATT positive and it cranks... I neglected to say that I jumpered together the 2 purple wires, that the NSS plugs into yesterday, at the firewall and no crank... I haven't had a chance to check anything today, but I was thinking it may be an issue in the bulkhead connector... I probably won't get a chance to take a look further until the weekend... I'll certainly have more questions once I take a look at the bulkhead connector...
        Thank you...

          Hi Bill...
It's an automatic... I currently have the ignition switch out and I was thinking I would check for continuity from the SOL connector out through the purple wire... I need to get longer leads for my VOM... Here's a picture of the connector I was going to proble...

Thanks Richard, for your suggestions... With the help of the PowerProbe tool, (actually ECT2000), I was able to find and fix a questionable connection in the harness... Being a PG car with backup lights, I suspect a previous owner did some custom wiring to run the car without a NSS for a period of time... The internet has made it infinitely easier to track down parts... I ran it with a NSS without backup lights for many years.... Thanks again for your help...
