Painting An Engine In A '65

    IMG_3957.jpgIMG_3958.jpgIMG_3959.jpg

I am painting the engine in my '65 which I pulled to be able to detail both engine and engine compartment. Based on info from this forum I am going to use engine paint from Long Island Corvette Supply (although I know there is great diversity of thought on this subject). I have posted some pictures above of the subject which I have been cleaning on for many hours.

Painting without exhaust manifolds? Were painted with engine. I also assume you will return to the original oil filter configuration after painting?

      Mike,

There might be a date code stamped into your timing cover, I don't know if they were always date-stamped. Mine is stamped roughly in the middle of the lower depression, car was built January 1967.

JRG says SB manifolds were NOT installed when the engine was painted.

Who is JRG? Why would he think the engine was painted without the exhaust manifolds in place?

I have those exhaust manifolds off and have bead blasted them. I know they are not suppose to have any coating on them but I have sprayed some 'Cast Blast' high temp paint (from Long Island Supply) on those and then cured in a powder coating oven. I was going to put back on and then paint the engine (with overspray on the manifolds). Now am not so sure. I have bought the correct oil filter cannister and will put it on. Will look for that date stamp on the timing cover. Thanks.
