C1 Windshield date coding - I'm a little confused by the JG & TIM

I need to order a windshield for my 1960. It was build in November 59. So I'm assuming I should get the glass date coded August, Sept or October, or as follows

    August 59 - TY
    September 59 - AY
    October 59 - YY

Are these codes correct as listed, and how early should I go? I've seem some other threads that said the glass could be as early as 6 months prior to build.

By the way, I assume Auto City Glass is about the only game in town now?

    Thanks,

    Don

You have the date codes identified correctly. My 1960 was built in 2nd week of December 1959 and the glass has YY code. You could use any of the three codes and they would pre-date your car build month.

What is the date code on your side windows? If they are original, make the windshield match the side windows.

I would disagree, Joe. My experience is that only about 20% of original C1 cars I've looked at over the past 40 years have all 3 window codes the same month.

Actually I was thinking of doing them a month apart. I had one possibly original door glass, and it was dated AY. That's what I was used for new door glass. I actually have a windshield I purchase and had it coded TY for August '59. But alas some dummie, namely me, cracked it trying to put it together. So now I'm ordering another one.

Mike, is August '59 (TY) ok for the windshield of a November '59 build car, a month earlier than the door glass?

Now I need to find someone in the Mid Atlantic area to help me put it together, I really don't want to crack another one. Gets kind of expensive.

        Thanks,

Mike, that is good information to know for future reference.
