    "Bowtie" Valve Cover Bolts?

While scavenging for parts at Spring Carlisle I came across a coffee can full of original Chevy bolts. The gentleman was selling them for a few bucks for a handful. I managed to find several FP, TR, RSC, WB, etc. of various sizes and threads. I was curious about these little "bowtie" bolts so I bought a few. They are the same size and thread as the TR valve cover bolts on my L36.

My question is, where these ever used on Corvette valve covers? If so, which years?
    Thanx,

Started seeing this headmarking bolt in the late 60's on smog pumps then in the 70's on many things.

      Floyd,

According to MF Dobbins' book, p. 361, 9th edition, that symbol is not a Chevrolet bowtie (looks more like a waving flag, but I don't know for sure what it actually represents), it is one of the symbols for Elco Industries.

Perhaps my pictures don't show it clearly because I chose to photograph them at an angle but the shape is definitely not a waving flag (not to my eye anyhow). Both sides of the polygon pinch in the same amount and exactly in the center. But the pinch-in isn't as pronounced as the typical "bowtie". Plus the bowtie symbol isn't centered on the bolt head. The underside does not have any of the rectangles as shown in the diagram posted by Gary. Instead, the underside has a raised circle that provides the look of a captured washer.

            Floyd,

Would like a better photo of the logo head mark straight on. Try with the flash off.

There are no bolt head markings in the 1960's International Fastener identification charts for bowtie style head mark.

There is one for a figure 8 head mark.

Is this the same bolt head marking (not the X)? I bought these GM head bolts in the 1980's.

Yes, this is a manufacturer's ID that is seen on quite a few bolts of the 60's and 70's. I don't know what manufacturer it denotes but it's not Elco Industries.

                  Gary,
I'm on my way to work but I'll take a better, no flash, straight on picture this evening.

I would niether describe it as a bowtie or a waving flag. Looks more like a dog bone to me. This is the underside:

                      Floyd,

Sorry, nothing in my fastener library bolt head manufacturer identification logo books. Couldn't find anything any current trademark like that in the patent office.

I think it belongs to a fastener company by the name of Acument Technologies. However, it might not always have belonged to them. It might have been originally used by some company they acquired.

                          Floyd,

May have found it. Stelco Fasteners from Canada used the attached logo until 1994.

Hope this is it. It's the closest I fastener logo/symbol I could locate on the Internet.

That sure looks like it to me. Now the question is, were these bolts ever used on Corvettes or any other Chevy? I'm particullary interested in thier use on the valve covers since they are the same size and thread as "TR" valve cover bolts.
