Question on 1957 corvette rewire job

I am in the process of rewiring my 57. Bought the complete lectric limited set of harnesses. First thing I noticed was in the front, the headlight connector ends pass through the front wall into the grill cavity, across the front and back into the engine compartment. The connectors are larger than the grommet holes. The old grommets are hard and brittle. I have not found them for sale yet. Are you supposed to disassemble the headlight and parking lamp connectors, then thread them through and reinstall? If I try to remove the old grommets to try and push the connector through I am afraid the grommets will break. Helpful hints from someone who has done this would be much appreciated.

Theodore the grommets are split so they can go over the harness with out removing the connectors. You are able to get new grommets at the larger corvette vendors. Corvette Central, Paragon.

Ted, Corvette Central has grommet kits that will cover the whole car. Other vendors probably have them too. Suggest you get the set, as they are all probably hard and brittle. Not expensive. -Dan-
