Turned the wipers on today and the actuator rod broke at the threaded portion on the rod that comes out of the canister. It broke almost where the threaded portion starts, leaving one or two groves.
This is the correct canister for this car (July 68 build) and I would like to avoid a service replacement. Anybody fix these or is it impossible?
Btw, the door is freed up now, I had not turned the wipers on for a long time and should have checked before I did, but that's all water under the bridge now. It's also likely that the canister was not aligned with the rod, which is probably why it broke. The canister was tilted down in front, so it tried to bend the rod when pushing. I noticed that too, but never thought enough about how it works to realize that would be a problem.
Anyway, it needs to be fixed now.
