    New Judging Manual Release

    Hi All;

    Just interested in the New JG the 68-69. Any idea when this will be for sale? This old JG just doesn't cut it anymore. Second Edition Winter 1997 just dosen't have all the information needed to judge this car.

    We are judging with the third edition, which came out in 2001. The Fourth Edition should be out late this year.

      Will there be a draft posted for comment or do these revisions just get published?

        A large team of us has been working on it - and commenting on it - for a few years. Section by section, page by page, a paragraph at a time.
        There was far more to it than "just getting published."

          Do you suppose posting a draft for comment would allow people, some of them even non-NCRS members, to copy the manual and not pay for it? Daily there are questions posted on this board by members who could have found the answer to their question in the judging manual -- if only they were willing to spend the time and money to look. I suspect people who do that are also willing to take the product without paying for it -- but then maybe I am too cynical.

            I imagine I'm not the only one with a Top Flight 68-69 car that had minor deducts during judging for things that were incorrectly published in the current edition. In fact, I still have a few items to change back to the way they were because I matched the incorrect info in the JG. I just hope that the "large team" has discussed and researched all the issues of concern. These years certainly had their share of running changes. I know that every member of the large team wants to get it right and complete this time. I posted some of my concerns a few years ago but I have no idea if that information made it to the eyes and ears of the large team. Maybe just a recap of the changes in one post would offer an opportunity for some final input before it is finalized.

              It was finalized last December.

                OK, but I'm going to be diappointed if it says that the water deflectors in my early 69 door jams are supposed to be unpainted rubber.

                  There's not enough space for that...

                  No revision will ever be perfect, right or complete. However, a team of 12-15 Master judges who judge 68-9 extensively reviewed, added, subtracted and clarified the manual.
                  Most (if not all) of the Team are regulars here on the DB so concerns brought up on this board are usually linked over and addressed as needed.

                  In any event you have a Top Flight car either way, changes or no changes.

                      Mine happens to be an Oct 04, 1968 build which can be considered early in most everyone's book. I have had a lot of fun talking, learning and discovering the history and details of my car. One such learning experience had to do with fit and finish with the interior panels. In early judging I had some deducts for poor fitting panels. Come to find out that some of the plastic velcro type tab locations were changed in the AIM (sheet B13) on 10-02-68. My car has ill fitting panels because of an assembly problem that was corrected after my production date. I don't know how many people are aware of this issue but I carry that AIM page to every judging event I go to. I'm always looking to learn more.

                        I'm hoping the new edition is out soon as my wife (not on purpose) threw out my 3rd edition manual and the store is now sold out. I'm manual deprived at the moment and trying to restore the engine compartment and put my engine back in. Deprived in Portland

                          Pat is deadnuts on!!! No book is 'perfect'. All were written by human beings and for that reason there WILL be errors of commission/errors of omission. The question is how close to perfection can you get?

                          Again to echo, Pat, those of us who've contributed time/effort have done so with the best intention and we feel we've IMPROVED on what was in print before the endless committee meetings/discussions...

                              The 1968-69 TIM&JG release is long out of the hands of the revision Committee. If your car had achieved a 97% at a recent Regional and a PV recently and you were signed up for final Duntov judging at the National Convention (June 30 to July4) you would not want to see the new manual in circulation before your car was to be judged -- and you will not. We have learned that it is not prudent to release a new judging manual just before a National Convention (don't ask how we learned that). Additionally just now the folks who solicit bids and negotiate the contract with the printer are a little busy with arrangements for said convention. Keep your check book warm. In due time it will happen and then you can bitch about what we did and didn't put into the manual.
