    Tail Shaft

I have a 65 Vette, however it was built in Sept of 64. What tail shaft is the correct one the speedo on the passenger side or the speedo on the drivers side? Im not sure which one to get?
    Thanks Russ

Yours would have used the GM #3846429 extension housing. This housing has a driver side speedometer fitting.

Although the Colvin "Corvette By The Numbers" states otherwise, I'll disagree with that book; I've never seen a '65 Corvette with anything but the 584 extension housing, with the speedo connection on the passenger side. I don't have a '65 JG, so I don't know what it says, but the '65 Assembly Manual sheet (section M20, sheet 4) that shows the passenger side speedo cable routing and clip installation was issued in May, 1964 and the routing and clipping never changed after that.

John --- actually the '65 AIM M20 Sht 4 shows it on the (correct) passenger side [ a ...584 part #]. The 1965 New Product Manual; Training Program Booklet (printed July '64) says "The Chevrolet four-speed transmission extension housing and main shaft are revised to provide for a right hand speedometer take-off connection". Same words in Chevrolet Service News.

So the speedometer is on the Passenger side, correct? When you say left or right where is that looking from?

              Thanks Guys

              I appreciate it

Left and Right are always as seen from the seated position in the car, unless specifically noted otherwise.
