    Re: restoration insurance

Brian, at what point is it not considered a vehicle, and which parts are? Think about a fully disassembled vehicle. Are the only parts that comprise the vehicle those with a VIN derivitive? My point is that would'nt it be difficult to convince the insurance companies to pay for any parts not specifically listed?

If a collector car policy is the answer, are they offered without the collision and liability components? (which gets back to DOM's original question)

      Re: restoration insurance

They qualify it as "actively undergoing restoration" to be eligible and you have to provide some documentation as to the "actively". You are right that a fully disassembled vehicle remaining so would have to be on some kind of floater but most cars are under restoration for a long time and maybe if you can't provide an underwriter with photo updates, they would refuse to renew but I think that would be fairly limited situations.

If I had toget coverage for a static disassembled car, it would have be as I said some kind of floater.

Hagerty, American Collectors and others don't have a fire & theft only type policy. They jsut issue the package & you could get the lowest liability limits to save premium but the liability part of these are the smallest part of the cost so that wouldn't be much anyway. That said, they may offer something I am not aware of but I don't think so. If they did, it wouldn't be available for the run of the mill values. It would probably have to be a big $ resto. It's also possible they might offer something for an agent that writes a ton of business with them but that wouldn't be me

just insured my under resto 58 with Haggerty, 50,000 coverage, no hassles 225 a year, expected a hard time, sent them pictures of the frame, the body in primer and the engine, she said it looked like a great car, very pleasant to deal with/

            Jaime,

Every vehicle I have ever owned has always had a name - think I have had five trucks, and current one is RED; previous truck was RUFF - Vettes prior to Mariah were Black Thunder; Ninja; Darth Vader; Nite Ryder - my first car back in 1964 was a Hudson and it was named Edie

                Good observation & point.

I am a little nervous about that because of the management at the airport.

I am in a comercial hangar but 90% of my hangar is machine shop and automotive restoration, (not airport related).

It is VERY secure and about as free from theft as one would want as it is Federal and protected from outside visits.

It is also connected to 4 other hangars that could take the whole building out.

Kind of a push as our shop cost was reduced to 1/4 the cost without having to pay utilities by doing this.

That would make the auto insurance on the vette affordable with those savings but things are tight all over.

I have been there since 1989 and moved all the automotive out for 3 years only to find that we worked all mounth to pay a portion of the costs in town for rent.

I wouldn't be so sure about the degree of security at an airport. Some guy in S. Florida bought the Aston Martin DB-4 car that Sean Connery drove in the James Bond movie (Dr. No or Goldfinger or one of the early films where the AM had machine guns and an ejection seat to name a few gadgets). He stored it in a hangar at the Boca Raton airport where I keep my plane. The airport grounds are completely fenced and security cameras surround the field. Warrning signs are posted on the fence and gate advising that it is a federal crime to blah blah blah. Access was through 1 gate that had to be opened by someone inside the FBO office. One night the car disappeared and to my knowledge has never been recovered.

                  You name horses, not cars.
