66 Steering Gear Box Cover

I need to rebuild or replace my 66 steering gear box. The 4th edition of the TIM & JG does not reference date codes for steering box covers. I can barely make out the 5666723 and I cannot see the 2 digit date code referenced in other posts in the archives. Is the date judged on steering box covers? Is the 2 digit date code Year and Month?

Randy -- I'm not aware of any date code on the cover. Here's the steering gear off an extremely late '65 (the next one installed at St.Louis was on a '66 ). The 2-digit # on the right is the pattern # of the casting, or so we've been told.

Thanks. Saw your picture in the archives and assumed it was a May 65 cover.
Since this is NOT a date code apparently any 2 digit pattern code is technically correct if i get an exchange gear box.
