    Source for Blockoff Plates?

    Hi all,

The body of my '57 says it is a non-radio car, ie, virgin left rear fender, and the driver when it was last raced in the mid-60's says it was also non-heater. That makes my bringing it back to "as-raced" easier, but now I can't seem to find the heater blockoff plate for the firewall and the radio blockoff plate for the dash. Can anyone recommend a source for these?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Thanks Joe, but that reference is a bit generic. I googled it, but all I get are these services that want $$$ to provide info for someone that I'm not even sure is the guy I'm looking for. Can you be a little bit more specific??? Thanks, Bob

Roger made them and may have some left. He is a long time 56/57 good guy.

He tells it straight. He lives in Portland, Oregon. Tell him I said hello.

          Re: Source for Blockoff Plates?

          Hi all,

Just a note from Anal Bob to correct a widely held misconception. On our older cars, we like to say stuff like "radio delete" or "heater delete." However, you can't delete something that wasn't standard to begin with.

In order to be radio- or heater-delete, radio or heater had to be STANDARD and there had to be something on the build sheet to purposefully delete what was standard. To the best of my knowledge, which, admittedly, is quite limited, heaters weren't standard till 1962, so if you didn't get one before that, it was non-heater, instead of heater delete. I don't pay a lot of attention to later cars, but sometime much later, radios became standard, after which it was correct to say "radio-delete."

Bottom line: If something wasn't standard, not having it was not a "delete" any more than a non fuel injection car should be called fuel injection delete. As they say, you learn something every day! Or in my case, you should learn something every day, but, unfortunately, don't!

Anal Bob: Thanks for gently reminding everyone of a fact about which you are 100% correct, but one which is almost completely ignored either through ignorance or indifference. Perhaps you can also do some education about the term "matching numbers."

              Edward,

More than happy to oblige! When we see "matching numbers" advertised, it 99% of the time means that the VIN number of the car matches the VIN of the engine pad.

To most of us, however, and you obvously or you wouldn't have VERY appropriately brought the issue up (and I suspect that you could have easily have provided the same answers as I. Matching numbers to the rest of us means that the date on the engine and all peripheral components, ie, everything that has a date on it, such as generator, starter, distributor, bellhousing, heads, voltage regulator, horns, etc., or anything that has a date OR a PART NUMBER on it, is consistent with the build date based on the VIN. This also includes the date on the intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, radiator, battery, transmission, differential, etc.

That translates to a BIG difference between VIN and engine pad vs. VIN and EVERYTHING else.

Granted, IF the engine pad matches the VIN, that is the most important, but making sure that BOTH the dates and part numbers of EVERYTHING else ain't cheap!

To those of us who have been around longer, "matching numbers" =s "restamp". If it's the original motor, just say so.

                      Bob,
I have made some cardboard radio speaker block off plates from my original one. They are dead on with the exception of the embossed "D". You'll have to do that yourself. I haven't figured out how to pull that one off!
