Re: Who Makes the Best Carpet?

    Hi,
I'm curious to hear member's comments about the molding 'definition', (not just the logo aspect), of the Knock heel and dimmer pads compared to the originals too?
Is the dimmer pad in the pictures I posted earlier in this tread typical of the Knock dimmer and heel pad now? They seem to be pretty poor reproduction to me.
    Regards,
    Alan

      Thanks...still looks like ACC

Bob, I installed a set of Al Knoch carpets in friends 68 conv., for judging reasons the differences I saw was the heel and dimmer pads were not close, the cuts on some of the carpets pieces were not correct, and there is no logos on pads, and color was not even close. He is a ncrs guy but does not care about having his car judged. By the way his car had the original carpets installed and was a 36k car.

I am with Jim- ACC carrpets are as close as you'll get for fit and finish, I have ACC in my 72and 63.
Thanks guys...Looks like ACC, but on their site, all carpets for a 1968 are "Formed" Will that pass judging?

No worse than ACC. Neither manufacturer has the correct pad

Re: Who Makes the Best Carpet?

I installed Al Knoch carpets in my 70 a few months ago. All of my ordering was done over the phone speaking with a customer service agent. I explained to them that I was an NCRS member and wanted all parts to be as close to original as possible.

I ordered the 1970 Black Plush Carpet Set. The drivers side carpet had the wrong heal pad for a 1970, and there was a pad over the dimmer switch (which wasn't installed on 1970's).
Re-ordered carpet. This time the drivers side carpet had the correct heal pad, but also still had the pad over the dimmer switch.
Re-ordered carpet. This time the drivers side carpet had the correct heal pad and "no" dimmer pad. Yeah!!! Installed carpet....front edge was cut too short. The rubber grommet holes in the bulkhead were not covered.
Re-ordered carpet. What is that saying, "the 4th times a charm"?
Neither the floor carpets or rear compartment carpet had the holes pre-drilled for the rubber grommets. Thats all up to you.

Also ordered a parking brake consol at the same time. Again, NCRS member...blah, blah, blah.
Received parking brake consol covered in black vinyl. Looked nice, but not correct for a 1970 (or any?).
Re-ordered parking brake consol. Received consol, no vinyl, but looked like crap. You could see round indentations in the top of it from where the under lying studs were installed.

I'll shop elsewhere in the future.

            Hi Mike,
BOY!!!! you were really given the run around!!!
I comment on 2 things though.
I found that not having the grommet holes in the 2 front carpet pieces, and the rear piece, was a positive since it allowed me to move the carpet around to just where it seemed to fit the best, and then cut the holes.
Many of the original e-brake consoles I'm seeing show the 'dimples' in the top surface from the studs. I'm not sure if they're showing now because of age, or were always visible.

Re: Who Makes the Best Carpet?

My mention of the carpet holes was in response to Ron Gudoti's post above.

The cracked center consol that I pulled out of the car was an after market piece. It was marked EC Products http://www.ecproducts.com/ and was of better quality than the AK piece, but it could have been in the car for 20 + years for all I know (when things were still made in America).
